Ahead of the Kanwar Yatra which begins July 30, the Food Safety Department has started a drive to check shops and eateries across the yatra route in Muzaffarnagar, saying this is done every year.
The Kanwar Yatra, during which lakhs of devotees fetch holy water from the Ganga in Haridwar to offer at Shiva temples in their hometowns, will be held from July 30 to August 11
According to Station House Officer (SHO) Manvendra Singh Bhati, the pickup vehicle allegedly brushed against one of the 'kanwars', triggering anger among the pilgrims who allegedly vandalised the vehicle.
