About this section

A domain model is an AI model shaped for a particular field, profession, data type, language, or operational environment. It may understand medical images, legal documents, financial records, scientific structures, industrial sensor streams, or another specialized form of information better than a general-purpose model.

A domain model is not merely a general model placed inside an industry application. Its data, vocabulary, evaluation, behavior, or architecture is deliberately adapted to the domain.

This layer sits between agents and core model architecture. Applications and agents use domain models to perform specialized work; model-architecture research supplies the underlying methods that make those models possible.

General-purpose model

Designed to perform many kinds of tasks across broad subjects.

Domain model

Optimized for a narrower field where accuracy, terminology, data structure, or regulation matters.
