O órgão citou que os gastos do SUS são maiores que os valores arrecadados pelo governo com os impostos pagos pelas bets, que repassariam cerca de R$ 50 milhões aos cofres públicos. "As empresas demandadas privatizam proveitos expressivos decorrentes da captação financeira de milhões de apostadores, enquanto transferem para o SUS e para toda a sociedade o custo orçamentário decorrente do adoecimento coletivo", argumentou a AGU. A advocacia do governo também acrescentou que o modelo de negócio das plataformas é estruturado para maximizar o tempo de engajamento e o volume de apostas, mecanismos que favorecem o vício. “Esses elementos, tecnicamente equivalentes aos utilizados em jogos de azar com potencial reconhecido de geração de dependência, produzem um efeito colateral sistemático: o adoecimento psíquico de parcela significativa dos usuários, sob a forma de ansiedade, quadros depressivos, transtorno do jogo e, em casos extremos, ideação suicida associada ao endividamento”, completou. Bets Mais cedo, entidades que representam as plataformas pediram ao Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF) a derrubada da medida provisória que proibiu a exploração e publicidade dos jogos on-line.
