Dino disse ter recebido uma série de denúncias relativas a ataques a imagens de santos, alguns dentro de igrejas, desde que decidiu, no último domingo (27), restabelecer a publicação na internet de posts com críticas a um projeto de destituição de Nossa Senhora Aparecida do título de padroeira do Brasil. Dino afirmou que a atuação da PF se justifica “considerando a repercussão interestadual, a necessidade de repressão uniforme e a natureza aparente de crimes contra os direitos humanos”. O ministro também determinou que a Procuradoria-Geral da República atue no caso. O candidato nega qualquer intenção nesse sentido e pediu ao Tribunal Superior Eleitoral (TSE) para derrubar publicações que o associassem a qualquer ataque a Nossa Senhora Aparecida. O ministro do TSE André Mendonça atendeu ao pedido e concedeu uma liminar (decisão provisória) para retirar as postagens do ar. No dia seguinte, entretanto, Dino acolheu um pedido do humorista Antonio Tabet, que alegou cerceamento da liberdade de expressão, e derrubou a decisão de Mendonça.
