Países árabes do Golfo Pérsico cancelaram reunião com Irã e Omã prevista para esta segunda-feira (14) sobre a reabertura do Estreito de Ormuz, enquanto os houthis do Iêmen atacaram novamente a Arábia Saudita. Tais medidas prejudicam ainda mais o abastecimento global de petróleo. Praticamente fechado desde que Estados Unidos e Israel atacaram o Irã no final de fevereiro, Ormuz é a rota marítima de transporte de petróleo mais importante do mundo. Houthis atacam Arábia Saudita Os houthis, aliados do Irã, afirmaram ter disparado dezenas de mísseis e drones nesta segunda-feira contra uma base aérea militar saudita em Khamis Mushait, perto da fronteira. O ataque atingiu hangares, sistemas de radar, pistas de decolagem e depósitos de munição. Eles descreveram o ataque como uma retaliação às centenas de ofensivas aéreos sauditas contra o Iêmen nos últimos dias. As autoridades sauditas anunciaram breves alertas de emergência na região e em outras três cidades do Sul que já haviam sido alvo de ataques dos houthis. Os houthis tomaram a ilha situada na foz do Mar Vermelho na sexta-feira (11). Outra ação danificou o oleoduto leste-oeste da Arábia Saudita – principal rota para o petróleo do Oriente Médio que contorna o Estreito de Ormuz. Preço do petróleo dispara Os preços do petróleo bruto subiram mais de 3% nesta segunda-feira, quando o mercado reabriu após o fim de semana. O preço médio de varejo do diesel nos Estados Unidos atingiu novo recorde, ao ultrapassar US$6,23 por galão. Operadores do mercado financeiro afirmam que o fechamento do oleoduto saudita poderia reduzir em até 4% o abastecimento global de petróleo, a menos que seja reaberto nos próximos dias.  Imagens de satélite mostram trechos do oleoduto danificados por incêndios.  Enquanto isso, o Irã divulgou uma lista de 77 navios que, segundo o país, teriam violado seus protocolos para operar no Estreito de Ormuz.  Qualquer embarcação da lista enfrentaria “restrições em futuras passagens, incluindo multas, detenção ou confisco”, e outras que os auxiliassem ao aceitar transferências de carga seriam adicionados à lista. *Com informações da Reuters.

Saudi Arabia on Saturday ​shut down the vital East-West pipeline after the conduit came under attack in the widening Middle East war, threatening to send energy prices soaring. The 1,200-km pipeline has served as the main route out for global ​supplies of Middle East oil for the ‌past six months while the Strait of Hormuz has been largely shut by war.

Saudi Arabia has stopped transferring oil through a major pipeline after it was attacked by drones. Meanwhile, Houthi forces have taken control of a strategic port and island in Bab el-Mandeb from Yemeni government forces. Iran, which backs the rebels, says it had nothing to do with the attacks.
