???? As Ukraine reports slowdowns in the Starlink system used for battlefield communications and frontline logistics, Elon Musk says that "any limits on speed or usage are decided by the US military and ultimately POTUS."
SpaceX boss Elon Musk said Wednesday that any disruptions reported by Ukraine in using the Starshield satellite communications system would be the responsibility of the US government, not his company. "Starshield systems are owned and controlled by the US government. Any limits on speed or usage are decided by the US military and ultimately POTUS," Musk said, referring to US President Donald Trump. Restrictions reported by Ukraine on its use of the US satellite internet system Starlink have exposed Kyiv's reliance on the technology for both offensive and defensive operations in its fight against Russia'a invasion, analysts and observers say. A senior Ukrainian official, who asked not to be named, told AFP on Wednesday that Starlink data communication speeds had been "throttled". The change has come at a time of renewed tension between Kyiv and Washington, with US President Donald Trump seeking to bring down global fuel prices by buying Russian diesel and pressuring both sides to stop attacking energy infrastructure.

Restrictions reported by Ukraine on its use of the US satellite internet system Starlink have exposed Kyiv's reliance on the technology for both offensive and defensive operations in its fight against Russia'a invasion, analysts and observers say. Speaking with FRANCE 24's Mark Owen, David Galbreath Professor of War and Technology at the University of Bath, says that "we always knew that allowing a private organisation like Starlink to have such a big impact on the combat operations in Ukraine was going to be challenging", explaining that "it is no surprise" that Starlink services had been throttled after SpaceX boss Elon Musk called the targeting by Ukrainian drones of data services in Russia "a step too far".
Ukraine is in contact with the US, SpaceX and NATO to seek clarification over limitations imposed on its access to the Starlink satellite internet system, a source in the country's Defence Ministry said on Wednesday. Ukrainian troops have reported that the Starlink connection is being shut off when travelling at higher speeds, causing major disruption to Ukrainian drone operations, many of which depend on satellite internet to pilot the craft. FRANCE 24’s International Affairs Editor Angela Diffley tells us more.
Elon Musk's Starlink imposed restrictions on the operation of internet terminals in Ukraine overnight, disrupting military missions, an adviser to the Ukrainian president said on Wednesday. The official said Ukraine was given no prior warning about the restrictions to the satellite system it relies on for battlefield operations.
