Tokyo, Oct. 20 (Jiji Press)--Japanese scientist Kenso Soai delivered a lecture in Tokyo on Tuesday, discussing asymmetric autocatalytic reaction, the theme that led to him winning the 2026 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Hosted by the Chemical Society of Japan, the lecture by the 76-year-old professor emeritus at Tokyo University of Science was attended by about 2,000 people, including online par...
Tokyo, Oct. 11 (Jiji Press)--An experiment by French chemist and microbiologist Louis Pasteur in the mid-19th century had inspired 2026 Nobel Prize in Chemistry winner Kenso Soai's research. Discovering a reaction known as the "Soai reaction," the 76-year-old Japanese chemist, who is a professor emeritus at Tokyo University of Science, has worked to unravel the mystery of why substances suc...
Tokyo, Oct. 10 (Jiji Press)--Kenso Soai, co-winner of the 2026 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, in an interview with Jiji Press on Friday looked back on his research that led to the discovery of the reaction now known as the "Soai reaction." Soai, 76, a professor emeritus at Tokyo University of Science, said that, as a child, he was more interested in living things than in cars or airplanes. He...
Tokyo, Oct. 9 (Jiji Press)--A reaction discovered by Kenso Soai, co-winner of the 2026 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, may help explain why life on Earth uses only one of the two mirror-image molecular forms and guide the search for the origins and traces of life. Organic molecules, such as amino acids, that are essential to life can exist in two mirror-image forms, much like left and right glove...
Tokyo, Oct. 8 (Jiji Press)--Kenso Soai, a 76-year-old Japanese researcher, won the 2026 Nobel Prize in Chemistry after spending day after day immersing himself in painstaking experimentation without complaint. What is important in research is "to keep on conducting experiments," Soai said at a press conference Wednesday after the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced its decision to c...
Tokyo, Oct. 7 (Jiji Press)--The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced Wednesday that the 2026 Nobel Prize in Chemistry will be awarded to Kenso Soai, professor emeritus at Tokyo University of Science, and Henri Kagan, who is affiliated with Universite Paris-Sud in France. The two scientists were selected for "the discovery of non-linear effects and autocatalysis in asymmetric organic ...
