Each vehicle is designed to serve around 1,000 houses, carry 1 tonne municipal waste and operate about 45 km daily for door-to-door garbage collection
Currently, BSWML has empanelled five companies, one for each corporation, to collect waste from bulk generators, which has led to a monopoly
The project, with a capacity of around 20 tonnes, has remained stalled for about a month since the Corporation issued a stop memo on grounds that construction commenced without the civic body’s consent
“While acquisition through the direct purchase route will be swift, it would be more protracted under the Land Acquisition Act,” district administration sources said
The service will be available on demand to all residents within the jurisdiction of the Corporation, including apartments and other residential complexes that require septic tank cleaning, says the Mayor
