Chandipura virus is an emerging vector-borne pathogen that primarily affects children aged below 15. It causes fever, flu-like symptoms and acute encephalitis (inflammation of the brain).
Over 5,900 claims amounting to ₹17 crore have been submitted by the patients for speciality treatment in States such as Gujarat, Haryana, Maharashtra and Delhi. These treatments included heart stent procedures, heart bypass surgery, cancer surgery, chemotherapy, dialysis and Caesarean deliveries
